ABOUT MATHILDE RAMADIER:
I am an author of essays and graphic novels (fiction and non-fiction). I have a degree in philosophy and psychoanalysis, and write on various topics —my favorite themes being feminism (maternity and sexuality), ecology (environmental ethics) and the critique of the startup culture. As a French-German, I now live in Southern France, after having spent six years in Paris and twelve in Berlin. I am represented by RCW Literary Agency, London.
Born in 1987 in Valence, I grew up in the Drôme region, at the foot of the Alps. I started my studies in 2005 with a preparatory year at the school of applied arts ENSAAMA (Olivier de Serres) in Paris. I then completed this artistic path with a technical degree in visual communication, before moving away from graphic design to study aesthetics, contemporary art and psychoanalysis at the University of Paris VIII, already convinced of the need to mix disciplines.
In 2011, I obtained a master’s degree in contemporary philosophy from the École normale supérieure, in a partnership with the EHESS, defending a thesis on Sartre and existential psychoanalysis, under the direction of the philosopher Marc Crépon.
For four years, I co-hosted and co-programmed a radio show dedicated to electronic music and digital arts on Radio Campus Paris, the “Poney Club 54”, inviting every week artists, DJs and different actors of this vivid cultural scene.
In 2011, I chose to move to Berlin, where I started working as a scriptwriter with my first graphic novels published in France by Dargaud and Futuropolis. Since then, I have translated various essays and graphic novels from English and German into French (Le Seuil, Massot, Ici-même) and then started publishing my first essays in 2017 (Actes Sud, Premier Parallèle, Le Seuil, Faubourg, Que sais-je?).
I also write for the French press (L’ADN, Socialter, Bastille, StillPoint Magazine (American psychoanalysis journal), Huffington Post, Le Monde, Libération...). For Philonomist, Philosophie Magazine‘s new media that deciphers in French and in English the corporate world and the economy through the prism of philosophy, I am an editor and speaker. For the French platform Majelan, I write and host podcasts to explain a concept using philosophy, psychoanalysis and a touch of pop culture.
In 2020, I completed my studies in psychoanalysis and psychopathology with the master’s degree in Psychoanalysis at the University of Montpellier III. My research focuses on the influence of polylingualism on the unconscious.
In 2021-2022, I supervised a writing workshop at the prison of Arles. I am a founding member of the Réseau des autrices de Berlin, a writers network, and I am listed on the French website Les Expertes.
